Unifying Product Ecosystems
& Governance Post-Merger
Role: User Experience Design Lead | Company: Neogen Corp

Quick Facts
Role: User Experience Design Lead
Company: Neogen Corporation
Scope: Platform evolution and unification after acquisition
Impact: +20% delivery speed and enhanced safety-critical interaction patterns
The Challenge
Following a major acquisition, Neogen sought to unify diverse product ecosystems and established team workflows.
The primary challenges included:
-
Varying user experience across legacy platforms
-
Evolving different interaction patterns into a single cohesive standard
-
Aligning multi-system development workflows for better efficiency
-
Repositioning Design from a reactive support function to a proactive strategic partner.

Why This Mattered
-
Users required a consistent experience across high-stakes laboratory environment
-
Established backend logic needed a unified front-end "language" to prevent duplication
-
Scaling the ecosystem required deeper alignment between product, engineering, and design
My Role
I led the effort to transition these platforms into a unified system while integrating Design as a strategic partner across Product and Engineering.
Key Insight
The challenge was not simply about visual consistency.
To evolve the member experience, we had to evolve the shared foundation—creating a common language and standardized workflows that respected the existing technical logic while enabling future growth.
Approach
1. Establish Design Governance
Authored scalable interaction patterns and design standards to serve as a single source of truth across all product suites.
2. Align Product Ecosystems
Embedded design-led research and workshops into the early stages of the product lifecycle to map business goals against operational constraints
3. Validate Safety-Critical Patterns
Introduced targeted design sprints and usability testing to refine safety-critical device GUIs, ensuring error-prevention in high-stakes environments.

Transformation
From: Diverse, independent platforms with established, separate logic
To: A unified, scalable ecosystem with a consistent design language and a 20% faster development cycle

Execution Highlights
-
Developed a centralized governance model for high-stakes laboratory software
-
Standardized complex workflows and interaction patterns across global platforms
-
Facilitated executive workshops to bridge the gap between technical constraints and user needs
Impact
-
+20% acceleration in development cycle time through improved stakeholder alignment and governance
-
Safety-Critical Optimization: Implemented error-prevention patterns for high-stakes environments
-
Strategic Shift: Established Design as a core partner in product decision-making and roadmap definition
What This Work Enabled
This initiative allowed Neogen to move from managing disconnected products to leading a mature, integrated system. Design is no longer just about the interface; it is the strategic bridge that translates deep-rooted backend logic into seamless, modern experiences.
